About JustDog

A small dog-care site run by people who also own dogs.

Why this site exists

I started JustDog because I kept running into the same problem: every time my dog Charlie did something weird (which was often), I'd search online and get either a wall of ads or a ten-paragraph essay that still didn't answer my question.

Charlie is a rescue—mix of something herding and something stubborn. He came with leash reactivity, a talent for finding food he shouldn't eat, and zero interest in recall. The vet bills for "I don't know what he ate this time" added up fast.

Over time I realized most pet sites are written for search engines, not for people standing in their kitchen at 10 PM wondering if that mushroom in the backyard is going to kill their dog. I wanted something different: one clear answer per question, written by someone who's actually been through it.

That's what this site tries to be. I write most of the guides myself. My co-writer Rebecca covers health and nutrition—she's the one who actually reads the research papers so I don't have to. David handles breed profiles and training, drawing from his years working at a local shelter.

What you'll find here

Health, food, training, and day-to-day care—the stuff we search for late at night. Breed guides and product notes show up when they help with those topics.

How we write

Each guide is edited for plain language and checked against veterinary sources when health or nutrition is involved. If something's wrong, tell us—we fix it and note the correction. Nothing here replaces your veterinarian.

Editor's picks

The "worth a longer read" section on the homepage is hand-picked for depth and practical use, not whatever published last.
